Telecom operators in the UAE have lent their support to mark Commemoration Day by changing the network name that will appear on handsets.

Phone users will see the Nov30 icon appear across the top of their phone screens in a tribute to mark Commemoration Day that occurs in respect of servicemen and women who have fallen while serving their country.

The temporary new network name will only appear until Thursday.

"With great pride, the name of the network has been changed to 30NOV to celebrate Martyr's Day," Etisalat tweeted on Tuesday.

Residents and citizens were also sent an SMS from the Marytrs' Families' Affairs Office, remind them to take part in a minute of silent prayer at 11.30am on November 30.

A similar tribute was conducted by Etisalat and Du in September to mark Saudi Arabia's National Day, with 'UAE KSA Together' appearing on handsets.

Thursday, November 30 is a national public holiday to mark Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday and Martyrs’ Day, whilst the public sector will enjoy an extra day off work on Sunday, December 3 to mark National Day which falls on Saturday, December 2.
