DUBAI // A report detailing the level of support for refugee crises around the world shows that the UAE has contributed Dh2.1 billion since 2010.

The donation has helped support and coordinate services and the dispatch of relief materials, food and medical aids, education, health aid and water, security and protection.

Today is World Refugee Day, and Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, head of the UAE Committee for Coordination of Foreign Humanitarian Aids, marked it by praising the country’s leadership for their commitment to aid across the globe.

She added that increasing numbers of asylum cases are attributed to the growing number of wars in several regions of the world, in addition to natural disasters brought about by climate change, especially in developing countries and poor communities.

Since 2010, global aid worth billions of dirhams was sent in support of people caught up in the Syrian crisis, providing supply relief materials, education, health and water services.

The report showed that about Dh181 million of UAE money was disbursed for the Palestinian refugee and other crises over the past five years, including that in Gaza last year caused by Israeli aggression.

Aid worth Dh98m has been sent from the UAE to Yemen and a further Dh27m has been sent in support of those suffering in drought throughout the Horn of Africa, while Dh18m was used in response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Nepal has received Dh11m of support from the UAE since the earthquake there, and Dh12m was used to help with the floods and earthquake in Pakistan, the report said.
