FUJAIRAH // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid offered his condolences to Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah, on the death of the emirate’s Deputy Ruler.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai visited the majlis at Al Remailah Palace in Fujairah, where he was also met by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, Crown Prince of Fujairah, and the sons of the late Sheikh Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, who died at the age of 79.

Sheikh Mohammed prayed that Allah will have mercy on his soul and grant him eternal peace in Heaven, adding that he hoped God will provide members of the late Deputy Ruler’s family with comfort and solace.

Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed, chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, and a party of senior officials.

Meanwhile, condolences to the UAE’s leadership on the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Saif have come in from across the GCC.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud called Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

He told Sheikh Mohammed that he hoped Allah will bestow his mercy and forgiveness on Sheikh Hamad bin Saif’s soul.

Bahrain’s prime minister also offered his condolences to the Ruler of Fujairah.

Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa called Sheikh Hamad and said that the people of Bahrain were saddened by the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Saif.

He prayed that Allah will rest his soul in paradise.

Hundreds of mourners attended funeral prayers on Thursday at the Grand Mosque in Fujairah. Three days of mourning were declared by President Sheikh Khalifa, while flags flew at half-mast across the UAE.

Sheikh Hamad bin Saif, who was born in 1938, contributed and served in elevating the UAE over the course of 50 years. He started with his appointment as Minister of State in 1971 by Founding Father Sheikh Zayed and, in 1976, he became Deputy Ruler of Fujairah.

In 1984, he assumed the position of Chairman of the Municipal Council.

Sheikh Hamad bin Saif focused on the importance of education, which he believed played an important role in building societies and raising awareness.

He regularly met citizens and listened to their requests to ensure their peace of mind and welfare.
