ABU DHABI // The UN Development Programme’s role in advancing developing nations was commended by Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development and head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid.
Sheikha Lubna underscored the UAE’s commitment to supporting international development efforts through cooperation with UN agencies, under the leadership of President Sheikh Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
Her comments came during a meeting at the ministry with Dr Sima Bahouth, assistant administrator and director of the Arab regional bureau at UNDP, reported the state news agency, Wam.
The delivery of aid to developing countries and communities plagued with poverty, diseases and ignorance, and swift humanitarian response to those affected by crises as well as support of countries in meeting the Millennium Development Goals helps to build a better future for humanity, Sheikha Lubna said.
The meeting reviewed the state of affairs of the UAE-UNDP partnership and discussed ways to exchange expertise. Sheikha Lubna and the UNDP representative also exchanged views on the major international development issues.
While briefing Sheikha Lubna about the UNDP projects, Dr Bahouth applauded the UAE’s efforts towards the cause and affirmed the UNDP’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the country.
