People & Politics: Sheikh Mansour attends opening of Ramadan sports festival

ABU DHABI // Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, attended the official opening of the Armed Forces Officers Club Ramadan festival this week.

Sheikh Mansour attended the Open Sports Festival ceremony at Al Jahili Theatre, Abu Dhabi, on Monday, state news agency Wam reported.

Sheikh Mansour also extended greetings to Sheikh Khalifa, the President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and the Rulers of the Emirates for the holy month.

The festival is in its 19th year and promotes a culture of fair competition, social development and motivation to improve on athletic peformance, Sheikh Mansour said.

The tournament also coincides with the UAE’s designation of 2015 as the ‘Year of Innovation’, he said.

Sports events include football, bowling, judo, shooting, volleyball, wrestling, jiu jitsu and “robot sports”.

Sheikh Mansour welcomed participants and urged organisers to promote the UAE, and Abu Dhabi as the host of the festival.
