DUBAI // Huge alphabetical letter figures in the new Dubai Font style have gone up in areas across the emirate.

The letters have been installed on Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Dubai Mall and Kite Beach as well as other main thoroughfares in Dubai.

The Express You initiative was launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

The figures showcase the unique design of the font and blend 23 languages.

“The Dubai Font is not only a digital medium for expression and reading, it is also a means of communication combining the ancient and honourable past of the emirates to its modern present and the aspirations of its brilliant future”, said Ahmad Al Mahri, assistant secretary general for the Executive Council and General Secretariat Affairs Sector of Dubai, and project director of Dubai Font.

“The Dubai Font, with the use of its different letters, will allow individuals from all over the world to express themselves and their opinions in their mother tongue and we aim through this initiative to convey a message from our dear nation to the world.”

The font was developed in collaboration with Microsoft and was created as part of the UAE’s bid to become a regional and global leader in innovation.

Dubai Font was developed with unique specifications that aim to encourage self-expression and reading, said Mr Al Mahri.

It was created from scratch and fills a design gap between Arabic and Latin texts and presents “harmonious” typefaces combining the two scripts seamlessly, he said.
