Foreign minister says more diplomat training needed as the UAE’s stature grows

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA), has called for more diplomats to be trained and armed with the knowledge and experience to help them work in a rapidly changing world.

He said Emirati missions were playing a significant role in communicating the UAE’s values.

“The academy serves as a key pillar in developing the country’s future diplomatic corps and foreign policy thought leadership,” Sheikh Abdullah said.

“EDA is a pioneering academic and research centre dedicated to strengthening the knowledge of UAE nationals.

It is a true testament and reflection of the vision of the President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, and the directives of his Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

“EDA’s mission is to build the capabilities that support the objectives of the UAE’s foreign policy with training, research and intellectual leadership that sends the message of peace and cooperation through the UAE’s distinguished relations with the rest of the world.” The UAE’s balanced foreign policy is guided by the principles of mutual respect and cooperation with other nations.

This meant the UAE has a distinctive position on international issues and a commitment to humanitarian aid and relief.
