FUJAIRAH // Signs that campaigning for the FNC election had begun were evident in Fujairah on Tuesday as candidates’ billboards began appearing in the city centre.

Thirty-eight candidates are in the running for Fujairah’s four seats on the council, with two decided by election and two appointed by the Ruler of the emirate.

As of Tuesday, some were still waiting for approval for their campaigns from the National Election Commission, while others had officially begun.

Ahmad Al Hafeiti, 49, whose face featured on posters near the city centre and in Masafi, said the key element of his campaign was giving results, not promises.

“I believe in results and I will work hard on achieving many results that concern everyone, such as health services, educational process, retirement, empowering women and more,” said Mr Al Hafeiti, who works as deputy chief executive at Al Sharq Hospital.

Mr Al Hafeiti said as well as the poster campaign, he would also make sure he visited residents in their homes and meet them at his campaign centre.

“My campaign centre is in Novotel hotel Fujairah, and I have a team of 10 dedicated members of the community who will help me throughout the campaign using social media, posters, brochures and media interviews as marketing tools for my campaign,” he said

Ebtisam Al Loghany, a mother of eight and a retiree from the Armed Forces, said she was still awaiting approval for her campaign.

“I don’t think that I will open a campaign centre. I will rely on social media and meeting residents at the area majlis, and distributing brochures and booklets in schools and private institutions, plus interviews with the media,” the 37-year-old said.

Ms Al Loghany said she was looking forward to discussing issues that concerned retired residents, such as health insurance and retirement allowances, plus healthcare services in the emirate.
