The National Elections Commission has announced details about the electronic voting system that will be used in the upcoming Federal National Council elections.

The new system allows citizens to vote through two options: either by using a candidate’s election number or by selecting an image of the candidate on screen.

The system will first be used during the three-day early voting period from September 28 to September 30 and again on election day, October 3.

Voters will only be able to vote after presenting a valid Emirates ID card which is inserted into the ballot machine.

Voters will be prompted to select the image of their desired candidate on screen or by inputting their number. They will then be taken to a confirmation page to validate their selection before their vote becomes final.

This last step allows voters to change their mind or correct an error if they made a mistake.

The NEC urged Emiratis to find out if they are among the 204,000 eligible voters. Names can be found on www.uaenec.ae, or by calling 600 500 005, or downloading the FNC app from Google Play or the Apple Store.

The NEC also announced overseas voting is to be made available for the first time.
