DUBAI// A Dh35 million contract for maritime maintenance and coastal protection over the next two years has been approved by Dubai Municipality.

The funding will allow for periodic maintenance of maritime and beaches to make sure that they continue to be popular locations for tourism and business.

The work includes preventive and corrective maintenance of the municipality’s marine facilities, as well as pollution prevention barriers, swimming barriers and floating anchors as and when required.

Protective measures are necessary due to seasonal northerly storms that cause corrosion to beaches.

Among the measures taken in previous years was to enrich Umm Suqeim beach with 500,000 cubic metres of high quality beach sand and the erection of coastal barriers.
