ABU DHABI // President Sheikh Khalifa has issued a federal decree to appoint Counsellor Dr Hamad Al Shamsi as Attorney General.

The President issued another decree on the retirement of current Attorney General Salem Saeed Kubaish, who has reached the legal age to receive a pension, reported state news agency Wam.

Dr Al Shamsi obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Sharia and Islamic Studies at the UAE University in 1998.

In 2004, he gained a master’s degree in private law in Egypt. In 2011, he received a doctorate in Middle Eastern law in the UK.

He has also served as chairman of number of legal and legislative committees in the UAE and worked for the judicial and administrative departments.
