Abu Dhabi // As many as 150 old houses in Fujairah will be renovated and extended at a cost of Dh10 million.

The money has been provided for Emirati homeowners by the Fujairah Foundation for Regions Development.

“The FFRD received about 300 applications last year from families,” said Majid Al Kindi, deputy director of the foundation.

“Of those, 120 to 150 will soon be approved and completed this year.”

Mr Al Kindi said that last year, 115 old houses were renovated or extended at a cost of Dh12m.

The foundation recently finished a survey to check the state of old houses in Fujairah. It found that of the 3,830 old houses in the emirate, 3,089 of them were in urgent need of replacement.

The survey also showed there are 61 schools in Fujairah and 17 of them need to be replaced, as well as six of 182 mosques and two of 10 healthcare centres.

Building materials are also expected to be distributed this year which will benefit 120 Emiratis at a cost of Dh1m.

Mr Al Kindi said that last year they approved 210 requests for building materials that cost Dh1.3m.

He said Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah, took great interest in Emiratis’ housing.
