Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, has received the mayor of the Palestinian city of Bethlehem and her accompanying delegation.
Vera Baboun and Sheikh Nahyan discussed the latest regional developments, especially those of the Palestinian people. The discussions centred on the people of Bethlehem. Sheikh Nahyan was briefed on the activities of the municipality and its developmental projects in various services areas.
Sheikh Nahyan sponsored the charitable ceremony hosted by the University of Bethlehem last month at the Intercontinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi. At the event, his son, Sheikh Mohammed bin Nahyan delivered a speech on his behalf.
Ms Baboun is the first female mayor of Bethlehem. A mother of five, Ms Baboun has been running the city since 2012. Bethlehem has been restricted from any international aid because the previous mayor, Victor Bataseh, aligned himself with supporters of Hamas.
