ABU DHABI // The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has removed 120 water and diesel tankers that had been abandoned in public parking areas and yards in Baniyas.

The move was part of a campaign at Baniyas East to remove abandoned vehicles and educate the public about the importance of cleaning vehicles as well as not leaving them unattended for prolonged periods.

Municipality officials had notified owners of the abandoned tankers that their vehicles would be towed if not removed within the legal notice period.

The municipality issues notices to offenders by leaving them on vehicles for three days. In case of no response from the owner, a fine of Dh3,000 is issued.

The vehicle is then towed to the impounding yard at Baniyas and is returned if the fine is settled, the municipality said.
