ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi City Municipality has demolished dozens of houses deemed too old and unfit for lodging.

The houses, located in Al Samha, Al Khatam and Old Shahama, were 25 years old and had become breeding grounds for insects and rodents, and a threat to residents’ safety and security, the municipality said.

The municipality has identified 392 homes that were constructed at least 25 years ago, and recently had launched an inspection campaign as part of efforts to demolish old and abandoned buildings as well as illegal structures and annexes within them, it said.

Seventeen houses were demolished in Samha East and West, and 15 in Al Khatam. No figures were available for buildings in Old Shahama.
