Civil Defence chiefs in Abu Dhabi have urged people not to barbecue inside their homes during summer to avoid fires and toxic fumes.

The general commander of Civil Defence, Major General Jassem Mohammed Al Marzouqi, called on residents to observe fire prevention and safety measures to avoid accidents.

He said civil defence departments have launched fire awareness programmes and inspection campaigns ahead of summer and urged people to ensure electrical and gas equipment is checked periodically by professionals and warned that children must be kept away from the kitchen while the stove is being used.
