ABU DHABI // A convoy of 18 trucks carrying tens of thousands of food parcels, hygiene kits, clothes, blankets, baby milk formula and vitamins and even wheelchairs from the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has arrived in the Gaza Strip to help Palestinians displaced by the recent violence.
Secretary-General of ERC, Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, said the convoy, led by Humaid Al Shamsi, Deputy Secretary-General of ERC for International Aid, is the sixth in a series of aid convoys sent to Gaza on directives from the UAE leaders to help Palestinians overcome the current crisis resulting from the painful events, reported WAM, the state news agency.
He noted that ERC’s latest aid delivery will support Palestinian hospitals facing a shortage of wheelchairs.
The UAE agency will deliver its latest batch of aid to its own warehouses in Gaza and to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, Mr Al Falahi noted.
An ERC delegation also toured the UAE field hospital in Gaza where it provides free medical treatment.
On Friday, ERC distributed 1,200 relief parcels and 200 gallons of drinking water to refugees in Gaza.
The UAE’s Red Crescent has already delivered tens of thousands of food parcels, clothes and blankets to refugees taking shelter at schools run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Gaza.
