A gang of thieves who stole Dh2.4 million worth of gold during a raid on an Abu Dhabi jewellers have been arrested.
The three men snatched 12 kilograms of gold after a late-night break-in at the premises in Bani Yas.
Police were alerted to the incident and managed to track down the offenders soon after, hiding out in an industrial area.
Officers recovered the stolen gold.
Police did not reveal the date of the crime.
“The men were hiding in a room in an industrial area and were found with the stolen gold jewellery in their possession along with some cash,” said Brigadier General Al Ameri of Abu Dhabi Police.
“They admitted the theft and said that they were planning to sell the jewellery to other shops using other identification cards that belong to other people,” he said.
