Four men have been arrested for muggings that involved one of the group spitting in the face of the victim as a distraction before another stole their wallets, Ajman police have said.

Major Ahmad Al Nuaimi, deputy director of the criminal investigation department at Ajman police, said: "The suspects, Africans, carry out robberies by spitting on individuals in malls and crowded areas. Then, they apologise and offer to clean the victim's clothes while the others steal their wallets before fleeing the scene."

Police have received several complaints about such incidents.

Maj Al Nuaimi said a team of police officers were formed to investigate the matter.

“Police officers identified the suspects while they were trying to steal from an Asian man in Al Nakheel in Ajman,” said Maj Al Nuaimi.

The suspects confessed to their crime during interrogations and were referred to the public prosecution.
