ABU DHABI // Drivers faced delays this morning due to fog and major accidents on the roads of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Abu Dhabi police urged motorists to take extra caution as low visibility due to fog hindered this morning’s commute on the emirate’s roads and highways.
The adverse driving conditions caused congestion and delays on the road to Abu Dhabi city from the coastal city of Al Dhabeya in the western Al Gharbia region.
Dubai police authorities also reported a major accident between two vehicles near Jebel Ali port on Yalayis street.
Drivers and residents took to social media to warn of poor conditions on the road with many retweeting Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority’s instructions on how to drive safely in fog and rain.
UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) also reported low visibility and fog in the northern emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah while issuing warnings for the eastern coastal and inland regions.
The foggy conditions are a result of an increase in relative humidity during the nights and mornings which the NCMS has forecast will last the next two days.
Coastal areas will see humidity rising up to 95 per cent in some places with temperatures climbing as high as 40 degrees Centigrade inland.
