SHARJAH // A fire erupted on a cargo dhow on Sharjah’s Corniche on Saturday night.

The blaze began at about 6.30pm and was put out by fire crews by 10pm, said Lt Col Sami Al Naqbi, director of Sharjah Civil Defence.

He said no one was injured and the boat did not contain any cargo.

“All crew members are accounted for, and off the boat, there was no injuries nor fatalities in the fire,” said Lt Col Al Naqbi.

While the fire was ongoing, an Asian driver watching the incident unfold hit a barrier and his car fell into the sea at Sharjah Corniche.

The motorist and two passengers were rescued from the sinking car and were taken to hospital.
