DUBAI // A pair of Filipino women who ran a gambling operation from their home have both been jailed for a year.
The criminal court also found seven Filipino men guilty of gambling and sentenced them to six months in prison.
All of them will be deported after completing their jail term.
The women, A J 37, and A L, 32, confessed to the charges at the criminal court, as did the seven men.
Prosecutors said in February of this year, prosecutors received information that two women were hosting gambling sessions at their flat in Al Jafilia.
On February 25 this year, police raided the apartment and arrested the seven men who were playing at the time.
“There was a table in front of them and it was covered with round plastic pieces while each player was holding cards in his hands. A J was not playing but was managing the game and taking money from each player and also providing them with the plastic pieces, while A L helped her in managing the game,” testified policeman M A, 27.
