DUBAI // A father-of-three and another man have been found dead in a flat not long after he was fined for assaulting his wife.

The death of Emirati AA, 26, and the other man is still being investigated by police and it has not been revealed where and when their bodies were found.

The father had been fined Dh2,000 in July for physically assaulting his wife after picking her up from her family’s home early in the morning of March 2 last year.

In that Dubai Court of Misdemeanours case, AA said his wife often went to her family’s home, leaving him and their three children, aged 3, 2 and 16 months, at home, an issue that sparked their fight.

The father’s lawyer, Faisal Al Zarooni, who requested his acquittal from the assault charges, appealed the verdict before his client died.

The lawyer said that, since his client passed away, a death certificate has not been issued and he has requested Dubai Court of Appeal to contact prosecutors to demand a death certificate to have the assault appeal case dismissed.

The father had returned home at midnight on the night of the assault to find his wife was not there and had again left the children with the maid.

“He called her and asked her to return home but she refused and insisted she sleep over at her family’s, which he rejected and headed to her family’s house and picked her up,” the lawyer said in his written defence argument to court. “On the way, she insulted him with inappropriate language and bit his right hand, which caused him to slap her.”

However, the court ruled in the wife’s favour and fined AA Dh2,000.
