Fake cops who kidnapped motorist jailed for two years by Dubai court

DUBAI // Four men who posed as police officers, kidnapped a motorist and torched his car have each been given a two-year prison sentence.

The Criminal Court heard that on August 28 last year, Pakistanis A N, 27, A K, 24, K R, 27 and N B, 32, stopped J M as he was driving on the Dubai to Al Ain Road.

The victim said he was dragged out of the driver’s seat, handcuffed and then bundled into the back seat of his car.

On the way, three of the men assaulted him repeatedly before they threw him out of the car in Oud Al Mutaina.

The victim said they stole his Chevrolet, Dh19,900 in cash, his two mobile phones, a laptop and official documents.

A few hours later, police found his car, which had been gutted by fire. Police said the men set it alight to destroy evidence.

The four were arrested and prosecutors said A N confessed to all charges during interrogation, and told them the other three helped him in the crime.

Records showed it was K R who set fire to the car.

In court, A N confessed to stealing the car but denied charges of impersonating a police officer and deliberately burning the car.

The other three denied all charges. The court ordered the four be deported after they had served their jail terms.

UK's plans to cut net migration

Under the UK government’s proposals, migrants will have to spend 10 years in the UK before being able to apply for citizenship.

Skilled worker visas will require a university degree, and there will be tighter restrictions on recruitment for jobs with skills shortages.

But what are described as "high-contributing" individuals such as doctors and nurses could be fast-tracked through the system.

Language requirements will be increased for all immigration routes to ensure a higher level of English.

Rules will also be laid out for adult dependants, meaning they will have to demonstrate a basic understanding of the language.

The plans also call for stricter tests for colleges and universities offering places to foreign students and a reduction in the time graduates can remain in the UK after their studies from two years to 18 months.
