DUBAI // After a rainy start to the new year, in spite of some cloudy skies, the sun was much brighter and the roads drier as Monday got off to a warmer start.

Tt will not hold for long, according to forecasters. The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology said temperatures were expected to drop again with cloudy skies and fresh winds due.

Strong winds are expected over the sea, causing dust and poor visibility over exposed areas. Seas are expected to be very rough in the Arabian Gulf and moderate in the Sea of Oman. The lowest recorded temperature over the country was 5.2°C in Mebreh Mountain in Ras Al Khaimah at 6.30am on Monday morning compared with 10.7°C recorded at Jais Mountain at 7.15am on Sunday morning.

The highest temperatures on Sunday were in Fujairah Port, with 27.2°C recorded at 9.45am. Average temperatures on Monday are expected to be about 22°C.
