More heavy rain is expected across the UAE on Thursday and Friday.
“Lots of rain. It’s going to be heavy rain in some areas,” said a spokesman for the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology. It is expected to fall in most parts of the country.
Drivers are urged to be cautious, with the possibility of wet weather causing slippery roads and poor visibility due to sand storms.
On Thursday, rain is expected over the west and east of the nation. Temperatures are expected to decrease by between 3°C and 5°C, the centre said.
On Saturday and Sunday, rain and clouds are expected to decrease.
An emergency plan for schools to implement in case of issues caused by the rainy season has been developed by the Abu Dhabi Education Council.
The plan has been circulated to all schools by the council to advise them on precautionary measures to take.
Abu Dhabi Police general headquarters also launched a public awareness initiative aimed at improving safety measures in such weather.
The director of police operations, Maj Gen Mohammed Al Minhali, said the programme included instructions for building and sanitation workers in high-rise towers and crane operators at construction sites.
They also aim to raise awareness about safety measures during heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms.
Maj Gen Al Minhali urged hikers and campers to monitor weather changes and to avoid valleys, rain water swamps and natural water canals.
