UAE weather: Heavy rain falls over Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah as winter chill persists

Rain has fallen across the emirates as the country remains firmly in the grip of a winter chill.

Showers fell across the capital from the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Heavy downpours were reported in Tarif in the Western Region, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said. It warned people to be prepared for hazardous weather.

Videos posted to the NCM's social media feeds overnight showed rain falling in the capital and across the country.

More rain could fall in coastal and northern areas during the day, the NCM said.

The NCM warned people along the coast to be prepared for hazardous weather as winds could also lead to dust clouds and poor visibility.

Temperatures will remain as chilly as 7°C in mountainous areas and 12°C along the coast, the NCM said.

Meanwhile, the relative humidity is likely to increase during night and by Wednesday morning, with a risk of fog over the next few days.

The sea will be rough to very rough at times in the Arabian Gulf, and moderate to rough at times, in Oman Sea. On Monday evening, the NCM warned seafarers not to venture into Oman Sea until Tuesday afternoon due to strong winds and wave heights that could reach as high as 8 feet.
