A study conducted by the Farmers’ Service Centre found that 73 per cent of UAE residents have bought locally grown agricultural produce in their groceries.
Statistics revealed that 68 per cent of UAE residents believe that local vegetables are of high quality and 59 per cent said they preferred the products because of their freshness.
Bassem Al Khawaldeh, manager of Protected Agriculture Unit at the service centre said 18 farms has so far successfully applied for funding from the “Zareei” (my produce) project launched by the Khalifa Fund for Project Development.
The scheme helps UAE nationals in the agricultural sector with interest free loans up to Dh1 million to helping them face challenges such as water scarcity, drought and high soil salinity.
