Around 150 government, private and iconic buildings in Sharjah will turn off their lights on March 28 at 8.30pm to mark Earth Hour.
Dr Rashid Al Leem, chairman of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, discussed with Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, head of the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority, final preparations for the event that aims to raise public awareness about energy efficiency and reduction of carbon emissions.
Dr Rashid Al Leem said the meeting reviewed a plan to convince the maximum number of government and private bodies as well as residents in Sharjah to switch off non-essential lights for Earth Hour, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National. The event is marked across the world every year on March 28 to encourage people to save energy.
