Postal deliveries delayed by unstable weather

ABU DHABI // The unstable weather hampered mail deliveries across the country on Tuesday.

Emirates Post was one of several companies forced to suspend its service.

“This is true – deliveries had to be cancelled,” a company spokesman said. “We started as normal but when the rain started we had to stop.”

He said that because many parcels were couriered by bike, it was unsafe to continue in some areas, especially remote regions.

Operations are expected to resume as normal on Wednesday, he said.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, received an email from Amazon saying that delivery of an order he had placed on December 31 could be delayed because of the weather.

“We wanted to let you know that your package may not arrive on time due to extreme weather conditions or an unforeseen natural event,” it said.

“Shipping carriers in the area of your delivery address – or cities along the delivery route – are reporting delivery delays because of these conditions. UPS will deliver the package as soon as possible.”

Delivery company Aramex also experienced difficulties.

“Because of the weather there are some delays in deliveries and collections,” a spokesman said.
