Yousef Al Raisi, head of the waste management department at the Ministry of Environment and Water, said progress and rapid economic growth of the country, in addition to an increase in population, has led to the emergence of urban environmental issues.
This has led to a steady increase in the proportion of waste generated the country, and an increase in waste production, which reached 1.82 kilograms per capita in 2014. This prompted the ministry to exert efforts and elaborate a dual plan to reduce it.
Mr Al Raisi said the plan is in line with the great attention the UAE gives to protecting the environment from pollution and preservation.
