The price of fish increased at markets in Ras Al Khaimah on Monday due to high temperatures and seasonal migration.

Abdullah Mohammed, a vendor at the market, said the price rise was expected at this time of the year because of fewer fishing activities and high temperatures that drive fish to deeper water.

Fishing trips are costly as fishermen have to sail longer distances, he noted, adding that this period usually lasts until September.

Mr Mohammed said the increases ranged between 20-30 per cent, with Shaari (emperor fish) costing Dh60 per kilo, the price of one 4kg Gabab (yellowfin tuna) rising to Dh120, and Hamra (red snapper) and Kofer (argyrops spinifer) costing Dh30 per kilo, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
