Emirati man sentenced to jail over Oman insult



ABU DHABI // An Emirati man who insulted a neighbouring country has been sentenced to three years in jail.

The Federal Supreme Court convicted Mohammed Ahmed, 27, for insulting Oman and its leader on online platforms.

His lawyer previously stated that his client was only defending his own country, and that he should be “praised, not prosecuted”.

The court also ordered the confiscation of the Mr Ahmed’s laptop, mobile phones and storage devices. It also ordered that the chats and data extracted from the devices be destroyed.
