ABU DHABI // Registration for Emirates ID cards in Al Gharbia will be linked with residency visas there starting next Sunday.
When applicants visit Private Medicine Centres (PMC) for residency visa medical tests they will be required to register for the ID card as well.
The Emirates ID authority announced the move last year. It has already been applied in the Northern Emirates as part of efforts to make the registration process more practical, and to register more people sooner.
The change in Al Gharbia is also considered a trial before the measure is introduced across Abu Dhabi island, authority officials said during their co-ordination meeting with PMC officials.
The link will take effect in Madinat Zayed, al Sela'a and Delma next Sunday. Ghayathi will join on May 1.
Once the new measure goes into effect, applicants must visit a typing centre to fill out a registration form, then go to one of the PMCs in Al Gharbia for the medical test.
After that, applicants will be directly referred to the registration centre attached to the PMC, where they must register for the ID card. They will receive a stamped receipt, a requirement to receive the medical test.
