DUBAI // A 73-year-old woman and both her daughters are accused of attacking a police officer who arrived at their villa to arrest the woman’s son on drug charges, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

“We went to their villa in Al Barsha to arrest the woman’s son after being tipped about him for using drugs. When we knocked on the door on November 14, 2015, his sister, who answered, asked us to wait until she and the other women in the house were properly dressed,” said an anti-narcotics police officer, 26.

He added that as he and his fellow police officers waited at the door, the old Emirati woman opened it and attacked him.

“She screamed at me then slapped me on the face,” said the officer, adding that the woman’s daughters started insulting him and one of them pushed him.

The officer said that the women were clearly giving the son an opportunity to escape.

“But the arrest team apprehended him, then one of his sisters said she will claim we barged into the house without permission and that they were not dressed properly,” he said.

The mother and her daughters - aged 38 and 31 - denied charges of assault and issuing insults.

The mother showed up at court in a wheelchair and her lawyer told the judges she had very weak hearing.

The next hearing will be on February 28.
