Upgrade for Abu Dhabi schools

ABU DHABI // Eight schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are being refurbished with modern security systems and facilities.

Apart from general maintenance of the schools, new scientific laboratories, educational areas and multipurpose and administrative offices will also be developed.

The project, which is hoped to be completed by July, is expected to upgrade the school facilities and bring them in line with Abu Dhabi Educational Council's (Adec) new stringent quality guidelines. Changes will be made inside and out.

Musanada, the Abu Dhabi general services company, has signed four contracts with local construction companies on behalf of Adec to carry out the refurbishment and maintenance.

The contract also covers the replacement and refurbishment of the schools' heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, lighting, toilets, sanitation and infrastructure.

The redesign of the schools, says Musanada, will have to be carried out on sustainability standards using environmentally friendly lighting and reduced electrical power consumption for air conditioning.

The refurbishment considers inclusion for pupils with special needs, offering upgraded facilities including lifts, toilets, ramps and appropriate class layouts.
