DUBAI // The departing principal of Dubai College has paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of his staff, pupils and parents in helping the school to achieve a fifth consecutive outstanding rating.

After five years at the helm of one of the emirate’s most successful schools, Peter Hill was delighted to be leaving on a high note.

“It’s a reflection of the work we have all done together that has helped us attain the outstanding rating,” Mr Hill said. “The report not only shows the work we do with the KHDA, but reflects the internal systems we use to improve what we do.

“It’s the fifth consecutive year we have achieved an outstanding rating and it is something that not only brings pride to everyone who works here, but also acts as encouragement for us to continue to strive for more success.”

Mr Hill has been with the school since 2003, and became headmaster in 2010. “I’m retiring this year, so I feel a great sense of satisfaction in leaving the college in such great shape.”

Recent improvements at the school included an renovated sixth form area and sporting facilities.

“We have worked hard to improve the extra-curricular activities we provide and also run a top-up challenge, which aims to push pupils to achieve more in their studies,” Mr Hill said.

The school’s exam results ranked it among one of the top British curriculum schools outside of the UK, meaning many of its pupils received offers from some of the world’s top universities.

“But we also appreciate that there are still things we can improve on, and one of our priorities going forward is to improve our Arabic language studies for native speakers and Islamic studies,” Mr Hill said.

“We are well aware of the Government’s desire to improve how Arabic is taught, and it is something we are keen to improve.”
