RAS AL KHAIMAH // Parents in Ras Al Khaimah have asked Emirates Transport and the Ras Al Khaimah Educational Zone to delay bus departures and the beginning of school hours on foggy days.

According to Al Ittihad, The National’s Arabic sister publication, Said Al Zaabi, an Emirati who lives in Al Thayt, said: “At this time of the year, heavy fog is common in the area and this often causes delays as our children reach their school with a delay of over 20 minutes. This causes nuisance and bother to the administration. The children get a late note. This matter must be considered and looked into.”

Maryam Ali, another resident, said that visibility is often “near zero” when the bus comes to pick up her children at 6am.

She said that she worries about the safety of her children and sometimes decides not to send them to school on days when the weather is particularly bad.

Parents have asked the Ministry of Education to find a solution to the problem and exempt students from school at this time of the year to ensure their safety.

Executives at RAK educational zone told Al Ittihad that students’ best interests and safety are a priority for the ministry.

Emirates Transport stressed the importance of vigilance in rainy weather and heavy fog.
