DUBAI // The new Emirates Standardised Test will be piloted this spring to pupils in grades one, four, six, eight and 10, the Ministry of Education announced on Saturday.
The EmSAT system is divided into three main sections. The first of these is a baseline assessment for students entering Grade 1. This test measures the readiness of children transitioning from kindergarten to primary school and provides decision-makers with accurate data about the starting point for developing their skills and knowledge.
The second section consists of tests that track the skills and knowledge of children through the years of public education in the subjects of Arabic, English, mathematics and science. The tests are designed to provide information about the extent to which UAE pupils possess skills and knowledge that are on par with international standards.
The third section measures the skills and knowledge of 12th grade students in the subjects of Arabic, English, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology before they enrol into higher education institutions, helping those institutions make informed admission decisions.
As previously reported by The National, EmSAT will be implemented this academic year for Grade 12 students in government schools or private schools that offer the MoE curriculum. The Grade 12 exam will initially cover English, Arabic, mathematics and physics. EmSAT will replace CEPA as an accredited admissions test at public post-secondary schools in the UAE.
Minister of Education Hussein Al Hammadi said that EmSAT comes as part of the overall development of the UAE’s education system. The test aims to provide decision-makers with accurate and important information to enable them to take the necessary decisions to improve the education system.
