ABU DHABI // Staff working in the capital's state schools can complete and track their housing and immigration transactions through a new online system launched by the education authority.
There are more than 2,000 expatriate teachers from the US, UK, Canada and other English-speaking nations working in the capital.
The teachers were brought in as part of the New School Model, which calls for teaching in both English and Arabic at state schools.
In the past, these teachers have complained about lacklustre administration efforts when it came to their HR needs. The Abu Dhabi Education Council set up the portal to help expatriate teachers complete all housing and immigration formalities more quickly and efficiently.
Requests for accommodation will be processed within three working days under the new system. School staff will also receive email notifications to follow up on contract and visa expiry and renewal dates.

Getting there
Etihad (Etihad.com), Emirates (emirates.com) and Air France (www.airfrance.com) fly to Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, from Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively. Return flights cost from around Dh3,785. It takes about 40 minutes to get from Paris to Compiègne by train, with return tickets costing €19. The Glade of the Armistice is 6.6km east of the railway station.
