DUBAI // Three pupils who topped the list of high achievers in this year's secondary school ministry curriculum exams learnt the good news in unexpected fashion - in a telephone call from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.

In Arts, Sarah Rahim Al Emadi, an Emirati at the Maria Al Qibtiyya School in Dubai, came first with a grade point average of 99.75 per cent.

In Science, Lara Hazem Mahmoud, from Madhab school in Fujairah, came first with 99.93 per cent and Abdullah Mahmoud Abdullah Ahmad, an Emirati at Mohammed bin Hamed school, followed closely behind with 99.55 per cent.

All three received a congratulatory phone call from Sheikh Mohammed, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, who informed them of their results.

"I enjoyed calling the top-ranked high school students and being the first to inform them of their outstanding achievements," tweeted Sheikh Mohammed, shortly after he spoke to them. "The future of the UAE starts from school."
