Abu Dhabi Education Council has started sending letters to the parents of pupils in Al Worood private school to familiarise them with the new schools their children will be attending.

Al Worood was ordered to close by the end of August after Nizaha Aalaa, 3, died from heat exhaustion after being locked on a school bus last October.

Parents of the 1,900 students will have to retrieve the letters from the school after receiving a text message from Adec, specifying a date and time.

Parents will have one week to go to the new school and enrol their children, and Adec says it will take no responsibility for non-adherence to the deadline.

Adec urged parents to respond to the plan, which provides their children with alternative schooling options on and off-island.

A service desk has been set up at Al Worood school to receive complaints and suggestions from parents.

Adec is giving priority to siblings to try to enrol them in the same school.
