The opening of Abu Dhabi Indian School’s new campus has been delayed until the end of this month or the beginning of next month.
When phase one of the building is completed, it will accommodate about 1,800 students from kindergarten to Grade 5, said Vijay Mathu, an adviser to the non-profit school’s board of governors. Phase two, expected to be completed next year, will open up places for students in grades 6 to 12.
“The very fact that we have a dearth of schools, that’s the reason we’re opening another one,” Mr Mathu said.
The current academic year will probably be extended to make up for the school days the children will miss because of the delayed start.
“I talked to Adec officials and we will have slightly extended time to cover up whatever has been lost,” Mr Mathu said.
He said registration information would be posted on the school’s website “within a week or so”.
“Anytime soon, we will be putting up the details for the parents to register.” He said that a lot would depend on building clearances.
