ABU DHABI // One hundred Emirati students have been awarded full scholarships for undergraduate degrees in a stem-related programme by Abu Dhabi Education Council’s higher education sector.

Half of the students accepted into the Talented Scholarship Programme will study in the UAE, while the other 50 will travel abroad for their higher education. Of those remaining in the UAE, 53 per cent are entering medicine and 47 per cent have chosen an engineering major.

Of the 50 students studying abroad, 80 per cent will study engineering and 20 per cent will enter business administration.

The annual scholarships are awarded to Emiratis aged 24 or younger who attained a minimum average of 85 per cent in high school or minimum university GPA of 3.0 in a university and discipline approved by Adec. All candidates must also pass an interview and meet other criteria.

“The Talented Students Scholarship Programme is offered to capable and motivated students each year in an effort to encourage Emiratis to major in specialised subjects, which are needed for Abu Dhabi’s growth and sustainability,” said Dr Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, executive director at Adec’s higher education sector.

“The 100 scholarship students were selected from 600 different applications and went through various steps and interviews to be granted their scholarships, thus their scholarships are well earned.

“We look forward to witnessing each of their success journeys and are confident they will help raise the bar for our nation.”
