DUBAI // A man accused of attacking his countryman and biting off a part of his ear failed to appear at Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday morning to enter a plea.

Prosecutors said that defendant M M, an unemployed 24-year-old Emirati, assaulted A A on June 22 last year in Al Muhaisnah but the reason behind the fight was not mentioned in records.

M M is said to have beaten up the victim, who was drunk at the time, before biting off a part of his ear.

Policeman F M testified that after receiving a report of the fight, he headed to the area and found the victim drunk and with bruises all over his body.

“I asked him who did that to him and he said M M, so we arrested the man, who confessed but didn’t say why,” said F M.

The attacker was charged with assault that caused a permanent disability.

A verdict is expected on June 15.
