DUBAI // A 53-year-old teacher has been fined Dh500,000 for insulting her uncle in a dispute over inheritance.

The Emirati was convicted of insulting her uncle and sending a text message that would cause hatred and unrest in which she damned him and damned a historic religious figure.

The woman was found guilty of sending insults via Whatsapp to the 60-year-old between November last year and January this year.

At the Dubai Criminal Court, she confessed and said she only used words she believed represent her uncle’s qualities.

“What man sends his niece to court accusing her of attempting to corrupt a society which she served for 29 years as a teacher,” said the woman.

The uncle said that he reported the teacher to police after she sent him several messages.
