Dubai school to launch diploma in Tolerance

New qualification will be taught at the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government

Students in Dubai will be soon be able to get a professional qualification -- in tolerance.

The Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government in the emirate will be introducing a diploma in the subject in April.

The course will teach students about the importance of tolerance in the academic world, and the role it can play in bringing about peace.

This year has been named the Year of Tolerance by UAE authorities, in celebration of the country's efforts to promote acceptance and understanding as its core values.

Last week, the International Institute for Tolerance, a newly-formed Dubai think tank, signed an agreement with the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government to offer students the chance to take the diploma.

The arrangement was signed by Dr Hamad Al Sheikh Ahmed Al Shaibani, managing director of IIT, and Dr Ali Sebaa Al-Marri, executive president of MBRSG.

Aisha Al Shamsi, a director at MBRSG, said students would learn about the concept, theory, and philosophy of tolerance.

She said those who signed up to the course would be taught how to instill the notion of tolerance in public and private organisations.

“We are targeting government employees in the first batch,” she said. “Later on, the programme will be open to anyone who is interested.

“It’s a professional qualification and this will start in April. The programme will be four months long and will have four modules.

“There will be a mixture of workshops, lectures, projects and assignments.

"This is an active step towards achieving our vision of spreading the message of tolerance as a value, philosophy and a sustainable approach to building societies that accept each other and renounce violence in all forms.”
