DUBAI // More than 170 police patrols will be dispatched during Commemoration Day and National Day.
Col Saif Al Mazrouei, director of the General Department of Traffic, said such occasions should not be seen as opportunities to hinder traffic.
“In previous years, some motorists did not abide by the road signs, which forced us to take strict measures against them,” he said. “We hope this year the emirate’s roads will be peaceful, reflecting the people’s love for their country.”
Reckless drivers will be fined Dh2,000 and get 12 black points, in addition to their car being confiscated for 60 days.
Col Al Mazrouei also said national flags and posters should be placed on vehicles in places that do not endanger the safety of the driver or others.
Motorists are also not allowed to perform stunts, disrupt traffic, park in undesignated areas, put big speakers on their car, modify the engine or colour of the vehicle, cover the licence plates, or use spray cans.
In Bur Dubai, 110 car patrols will be dispatched, while 66 will be dispatched to Deira on both Commemoration and National days. There will also be a police presence in areas where events are taking place.
