More than 500 traffic accidents were reported in Dubai on Thursday as a result of poor visibility and dense fog.

Dubai police received 564 accident reports on Thursday from 6 am until 12 pm. Police’s command and control room received 3,564 emergency calls during the same period.

Dubai Traffic patrols presence have been intensified on internal roads and highway to ensure quick response to all reports during foggy weather, police said.

Brig Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai traffic police, said, “Drivers must abide by traffic rules and keep themselves updated with weather updates.”

He also urged drivers not to stop in the middle of the roads.

Among the accidents reported on Thursday morning, nine people were injured in an accident involving 28 vehicles on Emirates Road. The accident took place at 7:30am as heavy fog reduced visibility to less than 500 meters in some areas across the country.

Fog continues to engulf many parts of the country, with poor and limited visibility reported on Friday, weather forecasters said.

Motorists are urged to switch low-beam headlights, increase the distance between other vehicles and slow down.
