DUBAI // Police have arrested an African man who allegedly killed his roommate, whom he accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting him.
Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina, chief of Dubai Police, said the CID were fast to act by gathering evidence and capturing the suspect before he had the chance to escape.
Maj Gen Khalil Al Mansouri, assistant to the chief commander at Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said the operations room received a report at the weekend that a body had been found close to a rubbish bin near a warehousein Al Qusais.
Police and a forensics team found the body of an Asian man in his 20s in a pool of blood, said Maj Gen Al Mansouri.
The victim's throat had been cut and he had sustained multiple stab wounds in different parts of his body.
Meanwhile, Col Salem Al Rumaithi, deputy director of the CID, said the Asian man lived with three other men, two Asians and one African, in a room provided to them by the owner of the company they worked for.
He said that the roommates of the suspect and victim were not able to provide the police with any information.
However, police distributed a picture of the suspect to patrol teams and said that the he would most likely be bleeding, as the scene of the crime showed there was an altercation.
Col Al Rumaithi said that the police found the suspect hiding between vehicles about a kilometre from the crime scene. The man was arrested and taken to Al Qusais police station.
The African man said he killed his roommate to preserve his honour after he found out that the Asian man would sexually assault him every time he passed out after drinking, Col Al Rumaithi said, adding that the African man bought the murder weapon three days before the crime.
The case was transferred to the public prosecution.
